ACT Program

This intensive, three-day course prepares training professionals and industry experts to deliver Apple's Aperture 2 curriculum. The course combines lectures with hands-on, case study exercises that reinforce practical skills. To attend a Pro Applications Train-the-Trainer (T3) course, you must first be accepted into the Apple Certified Trainer (ACT) for Pro Apps program. Please review the ACT Program tab for details.

Before attending this class, you should review the appropriate Apple Pro Training Series courseware. Once accepted to the ACT program, you will be sent a link to order the book online at a 35% discount.  You must bring the book and DVD to class with you. This courseware will also help you prepare for the end-user exam that you must pass before attending the T3.

Prerequisites

Participants must meet the following prerequisites prior to attending this course:

  • Aperture 2 Level One end-user certification
  • An accepted ACT application. The program guide and a link to the application are available at training.apple.com/act/
  • Attendance at an Aperture 2 end-user course
  • Minimum of one year of experience using Aperture
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a teacher or professional in any of these fields: photographer, photographic editor, visual effects artist, web designer, DVD author, graphic designer or other closely related field
  • Some teaching experience in a structured, classroom setting
  • Thoroughly review the Apple Pro Training Series book: Aperture 2 by Ben Long, Richard Harrington and Orlando Luna

Tuition and Fees

The $1400 tuition per student includes class fees and the trainer exam fee. You will also need to take the end user exam for $75 online - instructions will be sent to you with your T3 class confirmation.

Lesson 1: Importing Images into the Aperture Workflow

Using the Aperture Workflow and Layouts, Importing from a Memory Card, Choosing the Source Folder and Destination Project, Importing Images, Understanding Camera RAW, Using the Background Task List, Understanding Masters and Versions, Rating, Editing and Outputting Images, Backing Up and Quitting

Lesson 2: Evaluating Images: Compare and Select

Importing Images from a Disk, Navigating the Browser, Using Quick Preview, Grouping Images into Stacks, Rotating Images, Evaluating Images in Full Screen Mode, Zooming, Using the Centered Loupe, Assigning Ratings, and Evaluating Images on the Light Table

Lesson 3: Organizing Your Project

Lesson 7: Correcting Color

White Balance Revisited, Adjusting White Balance with the Eyedropper, Using the Enhance Brick, Using the Color Brick, Copying Edits from One Image to Another, Lift and Stamp, Specifying an External Editor and Launching an Editing Round Trip

Lesson 8: Enhancing Images

Apple Certified Trainer for Pro Applications

The Apple Certified Trainer (ACT) for Pro Apps program trains and certifies qualified individuals to deliver curriculum focused on Apple's suite of digital Pro Apps. ACTs work with Apple Authorized Training Centers (AATCs) to deliver a range of courses.

Learn more about the ACT program and complete the online Apple Certified Trainer application at: training.apple.com/act/. Be sure to specify the T3 course you want to attend. The application will be reviewed by Apple, and you must meet all prerequisites to be accepted into the program. Please allow at least seven business days for your application to be processed.

Once you are accepted into the ACT program, you'll be sent a code to take the end-user exam for the application you identified. If you have not passed that exam previously, you need to do so prior to the T3 course. You will also receive an email with information on registration and fee payment for the T3 course you selected.

Apple Certified Trainer for Aperture

The T3 course covers the requirements necessary to successfully become an Apple Certified Trainer - Aperture 2 Level One. To become certified, you must attend the Aperture 2 T3 course, and pass the presentation evaluation and the certification exam. The exam is administered during the last day of class.

You must be accepted into the Apple Certified Trainer program in order to attend this course. Apply for admission by completing the Apple Certified Trainer application. Once accepted, you will receive an email with registration information.

Train-the-Trainer Class Schedule

This is the schedule you can expect for T3 classes in the US. Your confirmation email will specify class days and times.
  • First day: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Subsequent days: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
